The Club was formed in 1983 by a bunch of enthusiastic runners who wanted to train together. We are based at Garforth Squash Club just off Ninelands Lane, Garforth. We meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 19:15 in the lobby and run at 19:30. Most nights after a run we have a drink in the Squash club bar.
Many runners do not come from a typical running background, but have found joining our running nights have helped in their field of sport such football, tri-athletics etc. or just for the purpose of keeping fit.
As part of the running experience, helping you to improve your skills and to encourage you, the club organises an in-house championship, from 12 nominated races for the year. Your 8 best placed races are counted and the winner is the one with the highest score.
Twice a year we run an in-house race over 5 miles, where the fastest members gets a handicapped time and give a head start to the slowest, these runners then have to try and catch up.
Each month the committee tries to select a runner of the month, this is given to a person(s) who has improved or given a lot to the club etc.
During the year we lay on some social events, like the pub run, where one evening we run to a local pub, have a quiet drink and light refreshment then get a train home.
We are affiliated to the NoEAA (North of England Athletic Association). This has many benefits such as discounts at road races. The club is entitled to apply for London marathon places, so members who do not get accepted can have a chance.
Joining a club can lead to discounts with local running equipment suppliers like Up and Running in Wakefield. Best of all you can run with someone which is safer and more enjoyable.
We also organise running events like the LCW and are part of the Sport Direct Cross Country League.
